Tissue Products

Tissue is used in many areas of oncology and autoimmune disorder research to identify cell markers, test drug efficacy, and provide insight into the physiological mechanics of disease.

At Conversant Bio, we offer processed and whole tissue from blood cancer and solid tumor patients. Conversant Bio can target virtually any disease, stage or grade and provide detailed patient annotation. Tissue can be frozen, formalin-fixed & parafin embedded (FFPE), dissociated into single cells, or simply shipped fresh. To learn more about our individual tissue products browse the items below. If you are interested in obtaining a specific biospecimen or don’t see what you are looking for please click the "have questions?" icon below and someone from our team will contact you shortly. Because Patients Are Waiting…
Tissue is the term used to describe groups of cells working together to carry out a specific function. There are many forms of tissue that make up the organs of the body. When cells in a tissue become infected, are attacked by the immune system or undergo a cancerous mutation they are described as “diseased.” Diseased cells cause a number of problems within the body, some problems may even be fatal. Treatment of these cells can often mean removal through surgery. In an effort to find cures and effective treatments for diseases, Conversant Bio is provided access to many different forms of diseased tissue.

tissue product types

tissue | fresh

Fresh tumor piece, shipped the same day of surgical resection for overnight delivery, is available from various patients. The tumor piece is quickly placed in a 4C hypothermosol solution within 30 minutes of surgical resection to maximize tissue viability and minimize cellular shock. Most tumor pieces remain viable for >3 days under our established conditions.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • biomarker identification/validation
  • genetic studies
  • visualization of tissue structure
  • xenografting
  • cell isolation studies
  • cancer stem cells

tissue | tumor derived cells

Cells from solid tumors are obtained using CBio's optimized tissue dissociation protocols involving both mechanical and enzymatic approaches. This process retains the complex mixture of cell populations (epithelial, endothelial, hematopoietic, fibroblast) normally found within tumors. These dissociated tumor cells are immediately cryopreserved in an animal protein free media containing 10% DMSO. The percentage of viable cells is typically >70% post thaw, although there is variability between tumor samples. Nonetheless, the number of viable cells / vial is ~2 million. Our tissue dissociation protocols preserve all tested cell-surface markers by flow cytometry.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune responses
  • biomarker identification/validation
  • genetic studies
  • xenografting
  • cell isolation studies
  • cancer stem cells

tissue | flash frozen

These non-viable tumors are flash frozen in liquid nitrogen immediately post surgical resection and stored at -150C.

key applications:

  • biomarker identification/validation
  • genetic studies
  • visualization of tissue structure

tissue | ffpe

These non-viable tumors are fixed in buffered formalin soon after surgical resection and embedded in paraffin.

key applications:

  • biomarker identification/validation
  • genetic studies
  • visualization of tissue structure

tissue | EpCAM

These epithelial cells, isolated from dissociated solid tumors, are obtained through positive selection involving antibody binding of cell-surface EpCAM (CD326) and magnetic column-based isolation. This results in CD326+ epithelial cell that are >80% pure by flow cytometry. The percentage and number of CD326+ cells varies widely between tumor samples. Most tumor typically contain 30-80% CD326+ cells.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • biomarker identification/validation
  • genetic studies
  • xenografting
  • cell isolation
  • cancer stem cells

tissue | CD45

These tumor infiltrating hematopoietic cells, isolated from dissociated solid tumors, are obtained through positive selection involving antibody binding of cell-surface CD45 and magnetic column-based isolation. This results in CD45+ hematopoietic cells that are >80% pure by flow cytometry. The percentage and number of CD45+ cells varies widely between tumor samples. Most tumor typically contain <20% CD45+ cells.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune responses
  • toxicology studies
  • genetic studies
  • cell isolation

tissue | viable plated cells

Cells, fresh or previously cryopreserved, can be plated on any desired plates or flasks and then shipped the same day for overnight delivery. Plates containing cells are heat-sealed prior to shipping to minimize leakage between wells. This option is ideal for researchers wanting to place cells in their desired assay conditions as quickly as possible or when concerned with properly thawing cryopreserved primary samples.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • genetic studies
