Bone Marrow Products

Bone Marrow is the birth place of the human immune system. A wide array of cell progenitors are found withing the marrow and help researchers identify the causes of blood and autoimmune diseases.

At Conversant Bio, we carry a variety of bone marrow samples obtained from both normal and diseased patients. The bone marrow cells can be purified to Bone Marrow Mononuclear Cells (BMMCs) or sold as a prospective fresh collection. Bone Marrow is the soft, flexible tissue found in the interior of bones. It is responsible for new blood cell production and is a critical component of the lymphatic system as a primary producer of lymphocytes. There are 2 types of bone marrow: red marrow, which consists mainly of hematopoietic tissue, and yellow marrow, consisting mainly of fat cells. The three primary components of blood (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets) are produced from red marrow. At birth, all bone marrow starts as red marrow but as the human body ages some of this red marrow turns into yellow marrow. Red marrow can be found in a variety of locations human bones including the hip, breast, ribs, cranium, and vertebrae. Additionally, this marrow is found in the cancellous material at the epiphyseal ends of long bones (i.e, the femur and humerus). Yellow Marrow is found in the medullary cavity – the hollow interior of long bones.

bone marrow product types

bone marrow | B Cells, CD19

These B-cells are obtained through positive selection involving antibody binding of cell-surface CD19 and magnetic column-based isolation. This results in CD19+ B-cells that are >90% pure by flow cytometry.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune responses
  • toxicology studies
  • genetic studies

bone marrow | B Cells, Negative Selection

These B-cells are obtained through negative selection involving binding of non-B-cells and magnetic column-based isolation. This results in B-cells without antibodies bound to their cell surface ("untouched") that are >90% pure by flow cytometry.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune response
  • toxicology
  • genetic studies

bone marrow | T-Cells, CD3

These T-cells are obtained through positive selection involving antibody binding of cell-surface CD3 and magnetic column-based isolation. This results in CD3+ T-cells that are >90% pure by flow cytometry.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune response
  • toxicology
  • genetic studies

bone marrow | T-Cells, Negative Selection

These T-cells are obtained through negative selection involving binding of non-T-cells and magnetic column-based isolation. This results in T-cells without antibodies bound to their cell surface ("untouched") that are >90% pure by flow cytometry.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune response
  • toxicology
  • genetic studies

bone marrow | CD45

These hematopoietic cells are obtained through positive selection involving antibody binding of cell-surface CD45 and magnetic column-based isolation. This results in CD45+ hematopoietic cells that are >90% pure by flow cytometry.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune responses
  • toxicology studies
  • genetic studies
  • xenografting
  • cancer stem cells

bone marrow | mononuclear cells

Mononuclear cells, mainly consisting of monocytes and lymphocytes, are obtained by gradient centrifugation using Ficoll. These cells are aliquoted and cryopreserved at -150C in a manner that maintains post-thaw cellular viability.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune responses
  • toxicology studies
  • genetic studies
  • xenografting
  • cancer stem cells
  • cell isolation studies

bone marrow | fresh samples

Fresh bone marrow, shipped the same day of draw for overnight delivery, is available from various donors / patients. Because we obtain samples directly from patients and donors for overnight delivery please contact us to discuss your specific needs. We will work with you to obtain the exact specimens you need for your research.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • biomarker identification/validation
  • assessing immune response
  • toxicology
  • genetic studies
  • xenografting
  • cancer stem cells
  • cell isolation studies

bone marrow | viable plated cells

Cells, fresh or previously cryopreserved, can be plated on any desired plates or flasks and then shipped the same day for overnight delivery. Plates containing cells are heat-sealed prior to shipping to minimize leakage between wells. This option is ideal for researchers wanting to place cells in their desired assay conditions as quickly as possible or when concerned with properly thawing cryopreserved primary samples.

key applications:

  • drug testing and drug target discovery
  • assessing immune response
  • toxicology
  • genetic studies

bone marrow | buffy coat

Mononuclear cells, mainly consisting of monocytes and lymphocytes, are obtained by gradient centrifugation using Ficoll. These cells are aliquoted and frozen at -80C in a manner that does not maintain post-thaw cellular viability.

key applications:

  • biomarker identification/validation
  • genetic studies
